Director Abdallah Al-Khatib was born in the refugee camp in the Yarmouk district in Syria, once home to the country’s largest Palestinian refugee population. When the war in Syria broke out, Syrian government forces laid the camp under siege. Nearly 20,000 people were closed off from the outside world, subjected to bombing and denied food and medicine. Al-Khatib’s documentary depicts life in the camp from 2011 to 2015, when the camp came under the control of the Islamic State.
